The Talking Back Project challenges the promotion of  cosmetic genital surgeries for women. It presents quotes and photos from 4 websites of prominent doctors who advertise these surgeries (removing parts of the internal or external labia, injecting collagen into the vagina, removing tissue from the clitoris or hood of the clitoris, etc.) by showing before-and-after photos and providing enthusiastic but scientifically unsupported booster comments.

Our project website allows people to write their comments about the doctors’ sites. The websites were downloaded prior to the September, 26, 2010 New View conference in Las Vegas, “Framing the Vulva: Genital Cosmetic Surgery and Genital Diversity.” At the conference the website materials were placed on easels and conference attendees wrote comments on slips of paper. The doctors are Dr. John R. Miklos and Dr Robert D. Moore, Dr. Delores Kent, Dr. Susan Hardwick-Smith, and Dr. Marco Pelosi II.

From time to time, the New View Campaign will print out the accumulated comments and mail them to the surgeons with a cover letter describing our project.
